Abstract:

 This study aims to experimentally reveal the effectiveness of a behavioral training program for developing self-care skills specified in skills (hygiene - improving general appearance), as well as developing social skills specified in skills (waiting in turn - respecting the classroom system) in a sample of children with Down syndrome with mental disability. To achieve this, a sample was chosen in an intentional way consisting of 06 children with Down syndrome who are sponsored by the Psychological Center for Mentally Handicapped Children in Al-Debila in the wilaya of El-Oued - Algeria - Each hypothesis relates to one skill of the skills specified above, depending on the experimental curriculum with its quasi-experimental design with one group, with two pre and post tests, and after applying the study tools represented in the measure of selfcare and social skills prepared by the researcher and processing data with the help of the statistical package (spss) program. (23) Using the T-test for two linked samples, the study showed the following results:  There were statistically significant differences in all measurements in favor of the means of post-measurement. From this, the results of the study indicated the effectiveness of the applied behavioral training program, and accordingly the desired objectives of the study in general and the program in particular were achieved, and based on these results and after discussing and interpreting them in light of the assumptions and previous studies, a set of proposals were presented that would work to push and motivate learners and researchers to move forward. In studies aimed at promoting the care of children with special needs in general and the mentally handicapped group in particular, which are at the same time goals that can be achieved by research and investigation through specialized future studies.
